These gardens are an absolute wonder to explore! Without needing to travel, you can experience many of the floral and botanical delights this country has to offer. Most notably, Kirstenbosch is home to a wonderful display of the plants from the Cape Floral Kingdom (one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site), not to mention the exquisite birdlife!

Towering at 1067 meters above sea level the majestic Table Mountain stands proudly overlooking the entire city of Cape Town. Don’t be fooled however by its close proximity to the City – the flora on the mountain makes up one of only 6 floral kingdoms in the world and has been declared a world heritage site. There is an estimated 2,200 species of plants found on the mountain and a guided walk up the mountain is the best way to experience this diverse and unique bounty.

“Fynbos” is the name given to the vegetation type which occurs in the south western portion of South Africa, a component of the Cape Floral Kingdom. This community of plants is so special that it is declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The statistics are staggering: It is a biodiversity hotspot with over 9500 species described (so far – research is ongoing) in an area occupying only 0.04% of the earth’s surface! There are more different plant species growing on Table Mountain than there are total species in the whole United Kingdom (islands included).

Let us take you on a very easy, slow walk (with some spectacular views) through a section of this amazing plant kingdom to give you a taste of just how special and important it is.

We will visit a local tannery and there will be an opportunity to purchase fine ostrich products including leather goods, clothing, shell ornaments, ostrich biltong (a South African delicacy) and more.


The Cango Caves is one of South Africa’s foremost natural wonders. The series of carvens and chambers naturally hewn out of limestone has been sculpted by nature over a period of millions of years. The picteresque town of Knysna is situated in the heart of the Garden Route. It is home to a beautiful lagoon with a range of water sport activities and fishing on offer. The aloe ferox plant is best known for its medicinal and cosmetic properties and has been used by indegenous people for centuries.This succulent plant which is indegenous to South Africa is found between the towns of Mossel Bay and and Riversdale.

At the original aloe factory you will get an opportunity to stretch your legs in the indigenous garden, featuring 17 species of aloes. The factory has regular traditional aloe tapping demonstrations. There is a multitude of wellness and beauty products for sale including sumptuous eats.


Cape Agulhas is the southern most tip of Africa and is the official dividing point between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. In Portugese its name means “needles” and refers to the rocks and reefs that have wrecked many a ship. It is bordered by blue mountain ranges with endless beaches and dunes.The Cape Agulhas coast is an angling paradise and is known as the Ship's Graveyard.

We are happy to combine some of the highlights of our other day tours with special activities and visits for children in between. We prefer not to cover too many places when doing these tours and where possible they are designed to accommodate children's needs' allowing for adequate time for children to eat when hungry, rest when necessary and enjoy their day without feeling overly restricted.

We provide a light kiddies meal with all full day tours and there are a selection of toys in the vehicle to keep the little ones occupied during the trip. We can arrange for car seats, strollers and any other baby equipment you may need at an added cost.

The southern tip of the African continent is the meeting place of two mighty and bountiful oceans, the Indian and the Atlantic. The Two Oceans Aquarium is ideally positioned to showcase the incredible diversity of marine life found in these two oceans. The Aquarium is one of the top tourist attractions in Cape Town and over 3000 living sea animals, including sharks, fishes, turtles and penguins can be seen in this spectacular underwater nature reserve. For the ultra daring there is an opportunity to dive with ragged tooth sharks.


Ostriches are the largest living birds on Earth. These flightless creatures which weigh up to 120 kilograms are fascinating to watch. Your kids will thoroughly enjoy a visit to the Ostrich farm close to Cape Point. The farm has approximately 40 breeding pairs of Ostriches and each pair lives in its own individual large open pen. During the breeding season it is likely that you will witness hatchings taking place during your visit. Ostrich eggs are the largest eggs laid by any animal and just one egg could easily feed half a football team! The farm has plenty to do and see including guided tours and a curio shop where one can purchase beautiful painted egg shells and leather goods. There is even an opportunity to ride an ostrich!


Visit the Cheetah outreach facility and enjoy the once in a lifetime opportunity of personally interacting with these magnificent creatures whilst learning about their habitat. You will also get to meet a pack of Turkish Anatolian Shepard dogs.


The crocodile farm is home to more than a thousand of these mystical creatures who have roamed the Earth for two hundred million years. Guided tours of the farm lead you across open dams via ramp ways allowing you to watch these creatures at your leisure. Visitors have an opportunity to touch and hold a baby crocodile and during the summer months there is an opportunity to watch the adult crocodiles being fed.

Seal Island is home to 75,000 Cape Fur Seals, 24 different bird species and is the hunting ground of the Great White Shark. Enjoy a lovely boat trip to the island where you are bound to encounter Dolphins, Humpback Whales and Brydes Whales. During the winter months the Great White Sharks are extremely active around the island.


Butterfly World, one of the more unique attractions of the Western Cape Winelands, consists of a tropical garden set in a 1000 m2 green house. This luxuriant paradise makes the free flying exotic butterflies feel right at home. Other activities include a reptile bay, spider room and inguana cage.


World of Birds is the largest bird park in Africa and one of the few large bird parks in the World. Over 3000 birds (and small animals including monkeys, baboons, meerkat, squirrels and more) of 400 different species are uniquely presented in more than 100 spacious landscaped walk through aviaries, allowing you the most intimate closeness with nature. A paradise for nature lovers and photographers, the World of Birds is one of Cape Town�s premier tourist attractions which no visitor should miss.


There is no sight on the ocean more magnificent then seeing these beautiful gentle giants gracefully move through the water. The best time for whale watching in Cape Town is during the winter and spring months. The whales can be spotted from the shore or in open boats in the False Bay area from June to November each year. There is no better way to experience whale watching then on a special purpose built boat allowing for maximum and close up viewing. Watch in awe as these creatures mate, calve and frolic with their fellow whales in the water.


Jam packed with over 300 interactive displays the MTN Science Centre is the perfect place for curious minds and active bodies. The best part is that kids are encouraged to touch, feel and play with all of the science, technology and mathematics displays allowing for total freedom and FUN!


The Museum houses both natural history and social history collections ranging from fossils dating back almost 700 million years ago to insects and fish caught last week. There are also stone tools made by people 120 000 years ago, traditional clothes from the last century and various interactive displays.

The Planetarium is a celestial theatre utilizing the complex Minolta star machine and multiple projectors to transport the audience through the wonders of the universe. There are various shows each day including special kiddies shows.

This is an excellent way for your children to meet and interact with local kids. South Africa has various categories of schools ranging from elite private schools to severely under-resourced township schools.


!Khwa ttu, the San Education and Culture Centre, 70 km north-west of Cape Town, offers you the unique experience of being introduced to the world of the descendents of the first indigenous people of Southern Africa. The San themselves will take you on a journey into their fascinating history, traditional knowledge, skills, languages, customs and current affairs. This enjoyable and eye-opening event will stay with you for a long time. Facilities include a beautiful restaurant and a curio shop with unique San-produced items.


As part of its 2010 social upliftment programme FIFA has set up a number of youth development centres in townships across the country. Township children congregate to these centres to learn and most importantly to play soccer. If your children are interested in soccer this is a fun outing where they can play some footie with the local children. There is nothing stopping the folks from joining in as well!


Bugz Playpark is a colourful extravaganza of sandpits, pedal cars, jumping castles, rowing boats, jungle gyms and a choo choo train, and will tire out little ones in no time. Older and more adventurous little ones can giddy up and trot around on the resident horses or tear up the surrounds on the selection of quad bikes. There is an indoor party area offering laser quest, magic shows or anything else their little heads could possibly dream up. Known for their quality of the food served, Bugz Playpark is also a sought after place for parents who wish to indulge in one of Tilla's famous pancakes or a Farmer's breakfast while watching the kids play.


Ratanga Junction is the only fully fledged theme park in Cape Town. The safari themed park has more than 30 attractions including 23 rides ranging from kids and family rides to thrill rides for the more intrepid adventurers. Enjoy spectacular views of Table Mountain from the adrenalin pumping Cobra roller coaster or cool off on the Monkey Falls. For the less adventurous there is a relaxing train ride and plenty of entertainment options including excellent restaurants.

Cool-Runnings Toboggan Track is the first downhill toboggan run in Africa. This summer version of snow tobogganing delivers the ultimate in safe, thrilling speed, in a bobsled on wheels down a 1,25 km winding track. Speed is regulated by the rider and there is no need to walk up the hill for your next go because you get on the sled at the bottom and let the automatic pully take you all the way to the top. Warning: one go and you�re hooked! This ride will totally satisfy your speed demon. All ages welcome (even parents) but under-eight-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult.


The beautiful Kirstenbosh Botanical Gardens is situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain and covers 528 hectares of lush grassy slopes. It is a children�s paradise with literally hundreds of trees to climb, rock pools to explore and various small creatures and birds. Let the children play on the vast lawns whilst you savour the fresh mountainous air. Relax and enjoy a delicious meal at the world-class Silvertree restaurant or if picnicking is more your style then ready packed picnic lunches can also be bought in the Gardens. Regardless of the month there will always be seasonal flowers in bloom. During the spring and summer months there are many concerts held in the gardens as well as markets and plant and flower shows.


Southern Africa is often considered the �gemstone capital of the world� as almost half of the world�s gemstones are found here. For this reason, experiencing the amazing beauty and variety of gemstones is an absolute �must� for visitors to Cape Town. The scratch patch is a place where children can have loads of fun �scratching� for their favourite tumble-polished gemstones from thousands of polished stones that quite literally cover the floor. There are a wide variety of tumble-polished gemstones in the Scratch Patch, mostly popular Southern African stones such as Tiger�s Eye, Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Jasper, Agates and Crystals. If you�re lucky, you might find virtually anything including Lapis Lazuli, Blue Lace Agate and some really exotic stones!


Blue Rock is set on a beautiful lake where one can experience the thrill of cable waterskiing and wakeboarding (children 6 years and older). The overhead cable system will pull the rider along in this fantastic and safe controlled lake environment. Do you have a need for speed? Cape Town�s beautiful beaches have magnificent sand dunes where one can enjoy the thrill of �skiing� on sand. Think of it as snowboarding or surfing without the inconvenience of getting wet or cold! This activity takes place on the Atlantis dunes about 40km from Cape Town. You don�t need any experience and the expert instructors will have you flying over the sand in no time at all.


Grand West Casino has various entertainment options for children including a mini fun fair, ice-rink, tenpin bowling, movie theater and gaming area. Babysitting facilities are available if parents wish to do a bit of gambling.


The Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) in Sutherland is the largest single optical telescope in the southern hemisphere, with a hexagonal mirror array 11 metres across. Although very similar to the Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET) in Texas, SALT has a redesigned optical system using more of the mirror array. It is able to record distant stars, galaxies and quasars a billion times too faint to be seen with the unaided eye - as faint as a candle flame at the distance of the moon. Enjoy a guided tour of SALT as well as other telescopes and get the opportunity to see the stars and other celestial bodies under what is considered to be one of the most cleanest and unpolluted skies in the world. Sutherland is situated approximately four hours from Cape Town and therefore this tour must be taken overnight. Accommodation to suit your budget will be arranged.


For kids with lots of energy there is nothing better than a walk up Table Mountain. Your kids will feel extremely proud once they summit the peak and the walk is a great confidence builder. We advise that you take the cable car down so that kids can enjoy the thrill of descending the mountain on the cable car. The Red Cross War Memorial Children�s Hospital opened in 1956 is the only specialist Hospital dedicated entirely to Children in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a living memorial for soldiers who died in WWII and cares for children from all across Africa. The hospital is world renowned for its specialist paediatric services.
